Hello, Gem.

How’s your heart? I pray it’s thriving. Let me tell you what’s been on mine.

Digital Detox x K.M.

The scroll gets heavy.

One minute you're “just checking Instagram,” and next thing you know, it’s an hour later, your energy is drained, and you’re questioning whether your life is moving fast enough, glowing enough, or worthy enough. Gem, even the most self-assured woman can get caught in that trap. But what if reclaiming your peace and self-worth started with unplugging? Yup, sometimes it’s that simple.

Be open to your digital detox era, which allows you to intentionally create space from all the digital noise so you can hear yourself again.

Studies show that excessive social media use is linked to increased feelings of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, especially in women. A 2021 Pew Research report found that nearly 59% of U.S. adults believe constantly being online makes it harder to disconnect from work and stress. And for Black women specifically, the online world can become a double-edged sword — a source of community, yes, but also of comparison, performance, and pressure.

Alex Elle, author of How We Heal, says,

“Just because you have access to someone’s highlight reel doesn’t mean you’re behind on your journey. Rest. Reflect. Reconnect with what matters most.”

And that reflection starts when we silence the outside world and come back home to ourselves.

You don’t need to be burned out to benefit from a detox. Here are a few gentle signs:

  • You check your phone before you check in with yourself.

  • You feel anxious or drained after being online.

  • You’re constantly comparing your journey to others’.

  • You find it hard to be still without a screen.

Sound familiar? There’s no shame, Gem. Awareness is the first step toward freedom.

A digital detox isn’t about punishment. It’s merely permission to slow down, rest, and listen inward. Begin with one hour a day without your phone — morning, lunch, or bedtime. Let that window become your sanctuary for silence and reflection. Follow accounts that nourish you, and mute or unfollow anything that makes you feel less than. Your feed should feed your soul.

Journal, walk, dance, or cook something new. Gem, remember the parts of you that existed before the algorithm. Text your real friends, hug your people, and sit in silence. Presence is the antidote to performance.

Most of all, reflect often. Alex Elle reminds us,

“Healing is not linear. It’s a daily practice of self-remembrance.”
Let each break from the screen be a return to your own voice.

You don’t have to vanish to unplug, you just have to choose presence over performance. Every time you silence the noise, you amplify your intuition. Every time you pause the scroll, you make space for self-celebration.

So if you’ve been feeling out of alignment, out of touch, or out of breath, this is your reminder: You are allowed to take a break. You are allowed to be without producing, posting, or performing.

You are allowed to rest and still be worthy.

Gem, share this blog with another woman who needs a break from the noise.

Sometimes we all need a reminder that stepping back is okay.

Until next time, I hope you step back to recharge and refine yourself. - K.M.
